The department began its activities in August 2002 under the name "Information Technologies". In 2002-2013, the department was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor S.S. Kasimov. Ph.D. V.N. Kogay, Ph.D. A.A. Jailavov, Ph.D. V.A. Karimova, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor X.N. Zaynidinov.

From 2002 to 2009, the „Department of Information Technologies” was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor S.S.Kasimov and made a significant contribution to the structure and development of the department.

Under the leadership, guidance, and participation of  Professor S.S. Kasimov, defended 7 candidates and 1 doctoral dissertation, published more than 20 important research works in the field of the national economy. He is the author and co-author of 40 textbooks, study guides and brochures, 300 scientific articles, as well as over 50 certificates and patents.

From 2010 to 2011 the Department of Information Technologies was headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor V. N. Kogay.

In 2011-2012 and 2016-2021, the Department of Information Technologies was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Kh.N. Zaynidinov, and made a significant contribution to the development of the department.

Under the leadership and participation of H.N. Zaynidinov completed more than 20 important research works in the field of the national economy. He is the author and co-author of 50 textbooks, teaching manuals and brochures, 300 scientific articles, as well as over 80 certificates and patents.

His scientific works have been published in scientific journals in England, Germany, the USA, Slovakia, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Turkey, Indonesia, India, and other countries.

The main tasks of the department are to train leading bachelors and masters of modern information technologies, teaching methodological and scientific- research works.

In recent years, with the help of the ICT Development Fund, two modern educational laboratories „Parallel processing and IT service” and „Research of open source software” have been created. In addition,  „Oracle Academy Lab” has been operating since 2017.
